Senior Show!

This week marked a major milestone in both my academic and creative journey: I showcased Prophet Envoy at my Industrial Design department’s senior show themed Double Take. After years of sketching, building, experimenting, and questioning, I finally got to present my work not just as a student, but as a founder and designer of a living, breathing brand.

The show’s theme was Double Take—a fitting name for a collection that asks viewers to look again, to pause, and to question what they’re seeing. Prophet Envoy has always lived in that space between art and activism, between textile and testimony. For the show, I displayed a curated selection of garments and tapestry pieces that honor revolutionary Black figures, each infused with messages meant to linger in the mind long after the visuals fade.

Curating the exhibition for an industrial design context pushed me to think deeply about materiality, storytelling, and audience. Every thread, every image, and every silhouette in Prophet Envoy was a deliberate decision. I treated each piece as a conversation starter—rooted in history but framed for today.

What surprised me most was the range of reactions. Some people were pulled in by the colors and prints, while others wanted to talk about legacy, power, and Black identity. I had long, thoughtful conversations with professors, peers, and guests who were encountering the brand for the first time. More than once, someone said, “This isn’t just clothing,” and that felt like a victory.

The senior show was more than an exhibition—it was a moment of grounding. To be able to do that within my academic community, among so many other talented designers, was something I’ll carry forward with pride.
